Philanthropy. Social. Hands-on.

Celebrating 20 years of charitable giving and volunteering in Elmhurst!

It's about giving back to the community we love.
EJWC is primarily philanthropic in nature, but it has a social aspect as well. The main goal of the Club is to assist other charities through fundraising efforts in addition to hands-on work. Over the years we have hosted major fundraisers such as the Elmhurst Kitchen Expedition and Tickled Pink. These two events have provided a core of funds allowing us to financially assist other organizations in need of our help. For more information on our past endeavors, check out our Gallery.

Along with our charitable efforts, we encourage a social side to our Club. With more than 50 women involved, activities are planned for families, couples and membership only (book club, fitness group, movie night). In addition to our community service goals, we are in this Club to help each other and make new friends. Members traditionally make meals upon the arrival of a new baby and are happy to help one another when otherwise needed. Club members are also a great resource for new information, ideas, professional referrals and networking opportunities.

Since our inception in September, 1997, Elmhurst Junior Women’s Club has supported the Elmhurst community and beyond both through service and by raising funds for charitable organizations. Each year we hold a number of signature events, these events are held in addition to the work we do each month with various local charities.

Tickled Pink is a breast cancer awareness fundraiser for women of all ages, with proceeds to benefit breast cancer programming in Elmhurst. The 2017 event was held May 5 at the Diplomat West.  Tickled Pink is an exclusive boutique-vendor fair experience which EJWC began hosting in 2004. The event was originally designed to increase awareness of breast cancer and has developed into a poplar multi-generation ladies night out. This year’s event, featured a marketplace with more than 25 vendors with a variety of items for sale, including purses, scarves and accessories, stationery and custom announcements, jewelry, garden art, children's art, books, furniture and accessories, gourmet foods, and makeup and skin care products. The  event raised more than $13,000 which was donated to the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation to support breast health services at the Nancy W. Knowles Cancer Center.

The Elmhurst Kitchen Expedition (EKE) - A "first-floor only" house walk that features six oustanding kitchens in the Elmhurst area.  EKE
began in 2000 and has become our largest fundraiser. This first floor only house walk, allows the public to view several Elmhurst homes with spectacular kitchens. It's a house walk with a culinary twist! In our first year, proceeds reached nearly $10,000. Over the 10 years we have hosted this event, EJWC has raised over $156,000 for local charities. Proceeds have benefitted the following organizations: Elmhurst Walk-In Ministry, Elmhurst Children’s Assistance Foundation, United Community Concerns, A Special Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the EJWC Scholarship Fund. The next EKE will be held in the Spring of 2018. We hope you will join us!

Additionally each year, Elmhurst Junior Women’s Club is able to offer college scholarships to worthy Elmhurst high school women due to our successful fundraisers. Candidates must be young women who are seniors in high school, residents of Elmhurst and they must exhibit an exceptional commitment to volunteerism, leadership and academics. In 2003, EJWC renamed the scholarship fund “The Brenda Grabacki Memorial Scholarship” in memory of a member who lost her courageous battle against cancer that year.

Elmhurst Junior Women’s Club is proud to host additional fundraising and philanthropic events. Check out the following images from some of our group events.

The 2016 event benefitted the Annie Legere Foundation To the Moon and Back (http://www.amazingannie.org/).
